things that make us SMILE

i know i said there was a baby in the oven, and i guess someone overheard. i heard some noises that sounded... not good, and found this. i exclaimed "porter! oh no, is it hot?" his little head peeked over his shoulder and he said "no hisss (it's) cold." after this experience i have learned that my stove conveniently has a child safety lock option. nice.

flowers from my dad

a backyardigans package from grandma and grandpa porter. he wasn't too excited about wearing a mask himself, but has insisted that jared and i wear them and gets very upset if we take them off. here are the 2 he chose for jared and i.

smiles from this little guy. he has been feeding me all sorts of food today, saying "mommy, try it." i didn't realize i said that.

life is good, don't you think?

considering the flu shot?

this only happens to 1 in a million people, but i don't know that i will take my chances ever again. i think even this girl would opt to have the flu every year than to deal with this. so sad! and so scary!

it is showing up for me, but if you can't see the video just copy and paste this url- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEN5KGwNGeo

best monday ever.

i found out this morning that i am pregnant with baby number 2! i am so excited. it was one of the few moments in my life that i was overcome with lots of tears of happiness. we are so, so, so thrilled with the news, and can't wait to meet our next little angel, sometime in June!

crazy news video- watch!

have you seen this video? a 6 month old baby gets run over by a train in australia and survives. i can't even imagine what this mother was feeling for those 5 minutes. INSANE!

porter's milestone!

today marks one week of success. porter has now gone one week, day and night, without his beloved "BINKY". probably an achievement we should have helped him reach a little sooner, but in all honesty, it was jared and i who were terrified of the process. the first day we planned a car trip during nap time and bed time so that even though we knew he would ask for it, it would be an abnormal bedtime routine that would distract him a bit. it worked pretty easily. the hard part was when he woke up crying in the middle of his nap, or in the middle of the night wondering where it was. we just had to let him cry. some nights he was so mad at us, and would literally start beating us up- hitting, kicking, scratching. a monster was unleashed! but the 3rd night came, and he woke up aftr 8 am and hadn't been interrupted the entire night. bliss. same with the 4th night. we've had a couple episodes where he has woken up later in the week, but rather than the kicking and screaming, we hear "mommy!" or "daddy!" a couple nights ago i heard the call for mommy, i went in to his room and lay next to him. "hi mommy," he says. "hi porter," i say. "mommy... i love you," he says. awww!!! a complete turn around from getting sucker punched in the nose unexpectedly at 3am. he has been talking even more now that he isn't "plugged" up. i am so proud of my big boy, he is growing up on me.

fall festivities

this weekend we went down to Santaquin, UT for some fun family fall festivities. we went to the red barn where we stocked up on some cookies, and took a hayride to the pumpkin patch. it was fun to see how different it was for porter this year, compared to last. last year he didn't like the hay ride. this year he climbed on by himself, found a seat next to his cousin zach, and then yelled "I'm REAADY!" it made me laugh. last year at the pumpkin patch he kicked the pumpkins and called them "balls". this year he was yelling "PUMPKINS" as the hayride was pulling up to the pumpkin patch. he picked out his own, but changed his mind a few times. any time he found a new pumpkin he would walk all the way back to jared, grunting because it was so heavy, and would say "daddy, look! pumpkin!" it was such a beautiful day- i don't know if i have ever noticed a bluer sky. i loved the beautiful scenery. we went back to jamie's house and had some scrumptious potato soup in homemade bread bowls (post that one of your blog, jam). later, jamie took the girls on an atv ride up in the hills behind her house. nerve wracking at times, but beautiful, and fun. i love this new family tradition.

my sunday boys

how could this NOT warm your heart on a sunday morning? porter is getting so tall, don't you think?

this could change everything

about winter sledding. i saw this at Costco yesterday and the packaging said it is the safest sled (good) and the way it was built looked good for porter. but once i came home and went to their website and watched the video clips, i am the one that is super excited! i think i will get a 2nd one, and start counting down the days til i can go sledding! maybe porter will get good and he and i can cruise down the mountain side by side together. ha ha. kidding, mother. it is called the Zipfy (pronounced zip-fee) and i think all my friends and family should get them so we can zipfy together this winter. no pressure. but really, go to the website and watch the videos... you can steer these babies, it's awesome!

i love

this boy. and everything about him. i love the messes he leaves me all day. i love the way he sings, and wants us to sing with him. i love the way he points his finger on the ground before he runs. i love how he wants to stay up late with mom and dad. i love the way he calls for his daddy in the middle of the night. i love the way he comes up to me at random times and says "mommy i love you". i love the way he knows exactly what he wants. i love the way he says "cereal" (siii-wee-yol) in the mornings. i love his gnarly dance moves. i love him. i wouldn't change a thing. sure i find myself often hoping for earlier bedtimes, and for the days when the messes will disappear. but in all honesty, i don't... i would miss them terribly. life really is perfect. i love the messes, and i love the late night cuddles. i love it all. i LOVE you angel boy.

time out = fun?

i haven't really been doing this yet, but tonight i put porter in time out. i have been thinking about how i would do it, where i would do it, etc. i didn't want to put him in his crib or his room, where it would backfire and he REALLY wouldn't want to go in there at bedtime. so, i decided a stool in the laundry room was perfect. it is a small room, and i don't care if he ends up hating that room.

so the reason he went to time out is because he decided to hit. i told him "no, porter we don't hit" and he did it again, so i put him in time out. i expected him to cry, but he didn't. maybe when i close the door and leave. nope. so i left him in there for a few minutes and he was as quiet as could be. i came back and opened the door and he was still sitting on the stool like a little angel. he stood up when i opened the door, and i asked him "are you ready to be nice now?" he turned around and sat back on the stool, and started to push the door closed. "bye bye, mommy", he said. i left for another couple minutes, and when i came back i realized the truth is... he loves time out. he carried the stool around with him the rest of the night. and in case you are wondering, no, it isn't a new item at our house. but it recently became the "time out" stool. i guess i will just be persistent, and maybe it won't always be new and exciting?? i don't know, i just wasn't expecting....... fun.
