**Can you believe he's 2? And I had to document his cute invitations this year. Party pictures coming soon...**
November 23, 2009Dear Porter,
Happy Birthday my sweet boy! I can hardly believe you turned two years old today! You are getting so big, I can't really call you a baby anymore. You are learning and growing so quickly. You just started talking in sentences this week, it took us by surprise. The 1st time I noticed was when you were in the garage right after daddy cleaned it out. You saw the bikes hanging from the ceiling, and said "Look the bikes are up there!" I'm still used to you using just a couple words at a time, it is fun to hear you talk. You are getting opinionated about things. You have favorite shoes already. If we put on different shoes, you occasionally will ask us to change them. And you prefer to drive in "daddy's truck" over "the blue car". Your favorite toy is "rocket" from The Little Einsteins. He goes everywhere with you. In the bath, to bed, to church, the store, and in the car. Daily activities are now referred to with rocket; for example, you ask to take "rocket baths" every night. One of your favorite things to do is to play soccer at the park with your daddy. You can kick the ball far, and can run and dribble the ball. Your favorite thing at the park is the slide. You are fearless, and always choose the biggest slide. You love to go see your cousins, and name them by name. You just started to like "tackle" and have lately been yelling "TACKLE" right before bringing another child to the ground. We are trying to teach you that most kids don't want to play "tackle". When someone gets hurt, you like to rub their head and ask, "Are you okay? All better?" You love all babies, and hunch down to their level and say "Hi baby!" in a high-pitched voice. We just know you are going to be a sweet good big brother. You hate going "night-night" and already have a list of excuses to avoid bedtime. The first is always "I hungry." You love going to gymnastics every week, and love to jump from high places onto the soft mats. We are excited to have your birthday party at your gymnastics gym with all your cousins and friends. We love you more than anything in this world, and are so proud of you! You are a sweet child of God, and I know you will grow up to do amazing things. Happy Birthday Porter, mama loves you!
Love, Mommy
this thanksgiving i am thankful for modern medicine. i had my 1st doctor appointment yesterday. as some of you know, i have been sick this time around starting at 5 weeks, and the daily puking stared at 8 weeks. come to find out, there is medicine that cures pregnancy sickness. i will hope and pray that i am sharing this wonderful news with all of you, and that this isn't a mean joke people have been hiding from me. i began taking it last night, but the real test was how the morning went since that was when i have my issues. and i am thrilled to announce that it worked! life as i know it has changed. every time i am pregnant jared and i have a lot of conversations about adoption. it's like we can't stand the thought of going through this again. maybe now i will not hate being pregnant as much. if only they could give me something to not get fat. the medication is called ZOFRAN, and my friends, this is your new favorite word, don't ever forget it. unlike every other nausea related medication out there, this one won't make you want to sleep all day. yahoooo! life is good!
ps: baby is healthy, the due date is June 27th, but the doctor says they want to take it a week early since I'm having a c-section. we will find out what we are having the end of december!
i made porter this cute little reversible superhero cape at our super saturday. i had actually made these last christmas for all of his cousins, but i didn't make him one. so when they announced that they were making them, i had to make one for him. he looks so adorable in it.
porter enjoyed helping me decorate for christmas this year. he kept counting the christmas trees- one tree, two trees, more trees. he can count to five, but when he's counting items it is always 1, 2, more. there was christmas ribbon dragged throughout the house, and some christmas ornaments were mistaken for "balls". in fact, i haven't had the heart to put the ornaments on the tree yet, i just don't see it ending well. his pictures are making me laugh these days. any time i bring out the camera, he says "CHEEEESE!" and then runs over to look at the picture. then he runs back to the same place and says "CHEEEESE" again.
today is my baby brothers birthday! he is nineteen, so i guess he's not a baby anymore. i am so proud of my little brother kyle. he is always thinking of others, and going out of his way to make people happy. he is a good friend, a good brother, and a good son. we were lucky to have kyle live with us for a couple of years, and i am so glad that he did. i feel like we know each other and are friends, and who knows whether we would be that close otherwise. afterall, when i moved out to utah kyle had just graduated from elementary school! he's all grown up now, and he is all awesomeness! porter loves his uncle kyle (or carl, depending on the day.) porter is lucky to have such a fun buddy to play with. we can't wait to see him in a couple weeks. hope your birthday was everything you hoped it would be kyle! love you tons bro!
my new computer arrived yesterday, and jared just finished setting it up for me. HEAVEN! a while ago i decided to get the i-mac, but it was giving me some major issues- mainly SLOWNESS. i forgot what it was like to check my email and all of my regular sites in a manner of a minute or two............ instead of doing a chore in between waiting for pages to load. my only issue now is to try and recover ALL of my pictures that i stored on my external hard drive that up and disappeared. i'm still holding on to hope that we will recover them, and worse case scenario, i still have all the pictures that are on my blog- even if it's only a fraction. ah, computer issues, don't you just love them?! now, isn't this new one a beauty?
it's not that i didn't know this, but i have really been blown away the past couple days at my little boy, and the reality that he really does have a mind of his own. here are some funny things that he has said that i want to remember.
1. jared surprised him with a new bath toy- it was squirters that were the "wonder pet" characters. the "wonder pets" is a cartoon that he has only seen a couple of times. he asks "where's fly boat?" we tell him "we don't have a fly boat." he says "to blue car- fly boat." translation- we call my highlander the "blue car", he wanted us to go the store and get "fly boat". we got it for his birthday, but everytime he sees those characters there is a meltdown about "flyboat". even today when we went "bye-bye" he got all excited and said "blue car! flyboat??" he just won't let it go.
2. we left gymnastics the other day, and porter tells he "ma, i want cupcake"
3. today we were at target and had lunch at their deli thing. he got off his chair and went to the icee machine and said "mommy, this drink" how does he even know? also during our lunch, they started popping popcorn, and he says "WHOAAAAA! popcorn FLYYYING!"
4. i went to pick up some pictures at kenny's, which just moved next door to chuck-e-cheese. he got all excited to get out and tells me "mommy, go play?"
5. jared: "porter, where is the baby" porter: "in yo tummy"
porter singing "twinkle twinkle little star". he is trying to sing it really fast, so he's not saying 1/2 the words, but i still think it is funny. especially in the end when he says "twinkle twinkle little turtle?"- by the smirk on his face, i could tell he liked that addition too. :) he is starting to "perform" more on camera, because he likes it when i show him the footage after.
It's my mom's birthday today! Whoo hoo! Mom, I hope you had a great birthday, and I really hope your birthday present arrived on time this year. I wrote a reminder on the calendar this time so I'd send it a week before, but since I failed to leave the house pretty much at all the last week, it still ended up being two days before. But, I have to say, I was excited about your gift this year. It just seemed like it was SO YOU.
My mom is an amazing woman. Every time I talk to her she is busy doing something. She is always involved with something, and goes out of her way to try and help others. My mom serves in the Young Women organization and when a young woman in her group was not allowed to come to young womens due to bad grades at school, my mom set it up to tutor her every week before Young Womens. It would be so much easier to not go the extra mile since she works full time, comes home for a short bit before going to the YW activities. But she did. I'm thankful for her loving example.
I love that I can call her any time of the day with a question about mothering, a question about cooking, a question about life, or just to say hello, and she will take the time to listen to me. One of the most important things to any girl or woman is their mother, and I'm glad that I have the one I do. She really is one of the most optimistic people I know, and looks for the good in any situation- even the ones I think there really could be nothing good. Ha. Thank you for your shining example.
I love you mom, and hope you have a happy birthday!
we had a happy halloween this year. porter dressed up as rocket from disneys little einsteins. rocket happens to be his latest obsession, and he has loved his costume for the past week and a half. we have had meltdowns at our house when bedtime has come, and we have insisted he take the costume off. he has slept with his costume in his bed. we took porter down to santaquin to trick-or-treat with his cousins. it was much more fun to be with the kids, even though he had to run to keep up, especially in his costume.
here are notable memories from porter's halloween experience:
1) he said trick-or-treat once when he knocked on the door, and again when someone answered.
2) he tells one lady "thank you" but she is too busy talking to hear. he watches her and waits patiently, before finally telling her "yo welcome" and walks away.
3) porter's final house: nobody is home. the kids move on to the next house, but porter sits down on their doorstep, leans against the door, and closes his eyes. he stays there for a couple minutes.
4) at a halloween party- a game is being played with dice, and everyone is yelling "Doubles!" Porter is getting really excited with everyone and is clapping his hands and jumping up and down. Soon we hear him yelling with the group, but when we listen closer we hear he's yelling "Bubbles", not "Doubles".
5) i dressed up for the ward halloween party as a police officer and wore a wig. porter didn't recognize me, even at home. he was going to the stairs yelling "mommy, where are you?" at the party, he was terrified any time he lost sight of jared, and did not want to be left alone with me. when we got to the car to leave, i put him in his carseat and then took off the wig. his eyes changed to something of recognition, and he put his hands on my face. "HI MOMMY!" he says, as if I just got there. i decided not to dress up on halloween so he'd actually want to play with me.

i feel like crap all day long. and thats putting it nicely. here is a peachy pregnancy update.
pregnancy #1 - i had no signs of even being pregnant until 8 weeks with porter, when i started puking every day. sounds terrible, but after the fact i felt fine the rest of the day. jared says i was a real peach during pregnancy #1, i guess i was a bit "snappy".
pregnancy #2 - i can't believe i got sick at 5 weeks. i am sick all day long. i am longing to puke and just be better the rest of the day. i am tired. i nap with porter every day, and he usually wakes up first. we are spending a lot of time at home, doing nothing. my house is usually a mess. porter is starting to memorize the cartoon songs, which goes to show how fun i am these days. i am super emotional. i have literally cried every day since i found out i was pregnant. at the gym, in my car, in my bed, listening to my ipod, watching tv, at church... i am unusually moved by the smallest things. i'm hoping that getting sick sooner means it will end sooner? (hope for a truly merry christmas morning.)
my sweet boy manages to keep himself entertained during the day, and by the time he wakes up from nap, daddy is usually home for him to taunt. he's so lucky to have a daddy that takes him on piggy back rides for hours, and takes him to the park to play soccer. they are best buds these days. here's some shots of our lazy days, and entertainment with "froggy shoes" and "hats" like daddys.
