potty training and life

lately-
the month of july has gone by incredibly fast! it seems like the 4th was just yesterday, and yet the month is nearly over. i guess there has been a lot of things going on in our lives. jared's parents moved in with us for the month of july. they are currently in the mtc getting ready to go on their mission to honolulu, hawaii. they will get on their plane to hawaii on the 31st of this month. we also put our house up for sale about a week and a half ago. getting it ready to sell was a little bit of work also. just to name a few... we put in new light fixtures, ceiling fans, stained our deck and fence, put epoxy flooring in the garage, moved all our extra stuff into a storage unit, and cleaned and staged each room. we won't move unless it sells, and if it does we aren't sure where we will move to yet. all we know, is that we'd like a house with a bigger yard that isn't on a busy street.
porter-
porter is going to be 20 months old in a couple of days. 20 months seems so old to me, that means that before i know it he is going to be turning 2. TWO!! he is talking so much. his latest thing is when one of us sneezes or says ouch he comes right up to our faces, and while nodding his head he says in a high pitched voice "you okay?? you okay??" it is so adorable.
potty training-
i am considering starting the potty training thing. it is probably too early, but i am not sure. yesterday i took him swimming so when we got home he was only in a diaper. he took his diaper off and peed on the carpet! i screamed loud enough that it would scare him into stopping, and ran him into the bathroom to see if he'd finish in the toilet. we were there forever, and he didn't want to be, so finally i went and put a new diaper on him. i went upstairs to get the cleaning stuff to clean up the mess, and when i came downstairs the new diaper was off and there was a huge puddle on the wood floor. aughh! so my thoughts are this: (1) he knew to take his diaper off when he had to go, twice! so that tells me he knows when he needs to go... (2) but he didn't want to be on the toilet, so maybe he isn't ready? (3) but maybe if i get a little toilet w/ lots of bells and whistles that he isn't afraid of falling into, maybe it'd be better. my mom sent me a potty training book, so i think i'll read it first and if i feel like tackling it, we'll go buy some BACKYARDIGANS undies (ok I'm getting excited) and a toilet, and lots of bribes... i will keep y'all posted. as you will see below, he has been really into TP lately, maybe that is another positive sign?
**the last picture was taken by jared, and is blurry... but it was too cute. porter was cutting a tooth and wasn't feeling well. maylee was over, and they were watching cartoons. porter laid his head down in maylees lap. she sat there stroking his hair while they watched tv. is that not precious?**

oh the joys of cleaning up more potty messes! You'd think we got enough of it with blow outs in the beginning! Sounds like you guys are super busy! Hope you can make the party on Monday!

GOOD LUCK! Potty training is the pits, but the glorious end result still makes me smile on a daily basis! You'll LOVE having a potty trained little man...not to mention the money you'll save NOT purchasing diapers!

You can do what we do. When the dogs pee or poop where they are not supposed to, we rub their nose in it, swat them on the nose, and say no! They've learned pretty well that way! Good luck!

That last picture is so CUTE...it's too bad it is blurry. I wish photoshop could fix that! I think I would give potty training a try. It sounds like Porter does understand quite a bit...smart little boy! Good Luck.

How fun to have the inlaws there for a little bit! And what a fun mission! Potty training--not so much fun, so good luck with that!
