today marks one week of success. porter has now gone one week, day and night, without his beloved "BINKY". probably an achievement we should have helped him reach a little sooner, but in all honesty, it was jared and i who were terrified of the process. the first day we planned a car trip during nap time and bed time so that even though we knew he would ask for it, it would be an abnormal bedtime routine that would distract him a bit. it worked pretty easily. the hard part was when he woke up crying in the middle of his nap, or in the middle of the night wondering where it was. we just had to let him cry. some nights he was so mad at us, and would literally start beating us up- hitting, kicking, scratching. a monster was unleashed! but the 3rd night came, and he woke up aftr 8 am and hadn't been interrupted the entire night. bliss. same with the 4th night. we've had a couple episodes where he has woken up later in the week, but rather than the kicking and screaming, we hear "mommy!" or "daddy!" a couple nights ago i heard the call for mommy, i went in to his room and lay next to him. "hi mommy," he says. "hi porter," i say. "mommy... i love you," he says. awww!!! a complete turn around from getting sucker punched in the nose unexpectedly at 3am. he has been talking even more now that he isn't "plugged" up. i am so proud of my big boy, he is growing up on me.

Yay! I am glad you can go through all of these steps before me so I can ask for advice. I think Kendal and I are scared not to have something to keep Savanna quiet at church, but everyone's got to do it sometime or other right?!
Congratulations! That was so hard for us too!! It is an even bigger crutch for us as parents I think. Now we are on to baby #2, who like Ethan goes to sleep only with a binkie. Maybe I should try sooner than later, but ahh, it is so much easier to have it.
