thanksgiving miracle! my life has changed!

this thanksgiving i am thankful for modern medicine. i had my 1st doctor appointment yesterday. as some of you know, i have been sick this time around starting at 5 weeks, and the daily puking stared at 8 weeks. come to find out, there is medicine that cures pregnancy sickness. i will hope and pray that i am sharing this wonderful news with all of you, and that this isn't a mean joke people have been hiding from me. i began taking it last night, but the real test was how the morning went since that was when i have my issues. and i am thrilled to announce that it worked! life as i know it has changed. every time i am pregnant jared and i have a lot of conversations about adoption. it's like we can't stand the thought of going through this again. maybe now i will not hate being pregnant as much. if only they could give me something to not get fat. the medication is called ZOFRAN, and my friends, this is your new favorite word, don't ever forget it. unlike every other nausea related medication out there, this one won't make you want to sleep all day. yahoooo! life is good!

ps: baby is healthy, the due date is June 27th, but the doctor says they want to take it a week early since I'm having a c-section. we will find out what we are having the end of december!

What is the strength of the dose and how much does it cost? Thanks for sharing the name of the drug. You know, the pharmacist side of me likes to know these things. I'm glad it is helping you.

I am so glad you are finding relief...i believe it is a bit pricey right?

the doctor said it was pricey- like $27 a pill... not a bottle... a pill! but when i got to the pharmacy i found out they now have a generic brand that isn't as expensive. my insurance covered it, so all i had to pay was $5 for the bottle. so NOT AT ALL!

mark, i'm not sure what the dosage is it says 4mg tabs? and cost is listed above. maybe you'd also want to know the generic name is ondansetron.

Yeah, I looked it up and saw the price for the brand name and yeah, it is expensive. 4mg was what I was looking for. That is the lowest strength and I figured it would be that much.

Something interesting...Ginger contains a chemical in it that works just like Zofran and gets rid of nausea. So there is a natural way out there that can do the same thing. The only problem is that you need to eat A LOT of ginger ( approximately 1gram) in order for it to work and most people don't like the taste of pure ginger.

I took Phenagran (an even less expensive drug that works for nausea) the problem with it is that you have to swallow it. I would usually try to take it too late and end up throwing it up. I also took Zofran which is better since it dissolves in your mouth, but one of the side effects of Zofran is headaches...and if there is a side effect from a medication I usually get it. Not fun....maybe if I kept taking it my body would get used to it. I will definitely have to try something for my next baby because throwing up is the worst! I'm glad this is working for you.
