it's been a while since i've updated the blog, so here is one big brain dump about what's going on in our lives.
less than one week until i find out if it's a boy, or if it's a girl. what do you think i'm having?? i'm curious. jared is convinced that we are having a girl, while i teeter back and forth depending on the day. my pregnancy is going good, i really am so grateful. i think the hardest part is just getting used to the adjustments... the need to wake up every hour to pee, the tiredness... and just learning how to handle them. i've got to tell you though, it goes by so much quicker once you have a child to take care of. that's a good thing.
i did some online christmas shopping this week, and i bought jared's christmas gift. i am unbelievably excited, probably partly because it is just as much for me as it is for him... but that doesn't make it any less awesome, trust me. i have been jumping out of my skin with pure excitement over this gift!! yahooo! by the way, if you are now a stay-at-home mom.... does anyone else feel slightly bad buying christmas gifts for your husband knowing that they are paying for it anyway? hmm, i won't dwell on that.
nap time is best when he goes down like this. zero effort for mom.
guess where we went today? the dinosaur museum!! porter loved every bit of it. it was bit of an amusing trip for me, because once i arrived i realized that my debit card was at home and not in my wallet. i only had $13. so i felt a bit like i was back in my college days, making it by on each penny. the admission to the museum was $10 for me, and free for porter. that left me $3 to feed us both lunch. so needless to say we didn't eat at the dinosaur rain-forest cafe, or any other yummy thanksgiving point restaurant. but at wendy's i was able to buy porter chicken nuggets, myself a chicken sandwich, and we split fries. anyhow, the museum was a lot of fun. porter kept saying "whoa, dinosaurs" in a really low voice. we will have to make it back there again sometime this winter. nothing better than some good indoor entertainment during the winter weather.
my house is decorated for christmas. i began the process just before leaving for our Thanksgiving trip, but I just finally got around to decorating the tree this week. i really debated even doing it, because i was sure the ornaments simply would not stay on, and could end up broken. but the little man has been a better listener than i thought he would be. my theme this year was traditional red and green colors, with lots of greenery. these swags are in all the windows in the back of my house. and i did something i never do this year... i didn't use every decoration i own. in the past, i've always been excited to decorate and then don't like the "cluttered look", and can't wait to take it down. i guess for me, sometimes simple is better.
the 1st big winter storm came this past week. i am sure snow was once again a new thing to porter. one day he woke up and just stared out the window for probably 30 minutes screaming "IT'S SNOWING!" later that morning, he was determined to go outside and check it out. i went through the loooong process of bundling him and myself up. he wasn't so sure of the snow, but was fine once i shoveled a pathway for him. he then went to the garage and retrieved the soccer ball to play a little bit of soccer. we kicked it back and forth for a couple minutes, but our entire outdoor experience lasted maybe 5 minutes before he told me, "mommy, porter's house? inside? it's cold."
