Hey does anybody know how to calibrate your computer monitor without having software?? I want to start printing photos, but need to make sure my coloring is right. For fun, here are some sweet shots of Porter yesterday.
There's no easy way without software (which isn't that good anyway because your monitor isn't good enough for it to really matter) except for trial an error. Calibrate it best you can, send a photo to Costco for $.19 or whatever, then take it home and compare, then adjust. That's really the best way to do it.
Having said that, depending on where you develop, sometimes stores will give you settings. If you always print at Costco, for example, they have a website that walks you through all the settings to do to calibrate your monitor to their printers. Everyone's printers handle color differently so if you print one picture at Costco and another at Ritz without changing a thing, the color will probably be different. Just the nature of the beast.
Hope that helps. i don't remember the Costco website from when I used it, but if you call their photo center, they should be able to give it to you. Even then, because the color on your monitor won't be perfect, it may not be exact. Trial and error is the surest way, it's just annoying and can take days of trial and error until you get it right.
I can't help you with any calibration advice, but I just had to say that I LOVE those pictures of Porter. He is just so dang cute! What do you do with yourself? :)
